What Age Should Kids Start Learning to Code?

There is no single “perfect” age, but a practical range is 8–10 for first projects (with adult help on setup) and 11–18 for text-based Python, HTML, Excel, and web courses. The best age is when the child can follow multi-step instructions and stays curious about making something—not memorizing syntax.

FAQ

Is 7 too young for SidneyCodes?

Many of our courses target 8+ because of reading load and tool setup. Younger learners may do better with heavily visual tools and live adult guidance.

Should beginners start with Python or HTML?

Either works. HTML shows results in a browser quickly; Python is great for games and logic. Choose the theme the student cares about.

What if siblings are different ages?

Use separate learner accounts and pick age-appropriate courses. Older siblings can mentor; younger ones should not be forced into teen-level reading.
